It’s always been a dream of mine to make a wedding cake for Strawberry Hill House… Chenchen and Yuchen contacted me asking about my wedding cakes specifically as a lot of my designs feature different shaped tiers and geometric features. Their brief was that the cake be red, pink and gold, feature flowing leaves/ foliage and be inspired by the room where it was to be on display, but from there I had free reign to design something special for them. The most exciting part of the design process for me was that their wedding venue was to be Strawberry Hill House.

Strawberry Hill house really is a venue like no other; It was created by Horace Walpole in the 18th century and is internationally famous as Britain’s finest example of Georgian Gothic revival architecture. If I got married again, it would be in a place like this.

As a wedding cake designer, it’s an absolute joy to be given free reign designing a cake inspired by architecture. In fact for me, this is the absolute best part of my job, and especially somewhere as amazing as Strawberry Hill House.

The design features red and pink modern art layered painted effect with gold leaf accents and the top tier is half gold leaf at the top, faded into the other colours. To bring in the leaves, I created a long string of sugar leaves that I gently draped around the sides of the cake. I finished the design off on its table with a modern gold cake stand.
