Wedding Cake Inspiration- The Fruit of Love

Jun 29, 2018

Is it the aptly named passion fruit? Nope. It’s actually the pomegranate, according to Greek God Hades…
The blue room at the paradise by way of kensal green
And the pomegranate was the subject of a recent project I had the honour of taking part in recently. The super talented Keeneda from Events by Keenda invited me to make a dessert table for a sytled shoot with the pomegranate as it’s main inspiration, set to take place at the amazing pub wedding venue of The Paradise by Way of Kensal Green. The venue is a rabbit warren of different levels, rooms, quirky décor and provides the back drop of some fabulously distressed colourful walls.
On a fabulous sunny day back in March I set up a dessert table with my vision of the fruit of love. So here is some inspiration for the perfect whimsy dessert table for your wedding day… Photos all by the fabulous Sophie Lake Photography.
Three tier marble and ombre buttercream rustic whimsy urban wedding cake
A three tier cake was the main event of the dessert table. To serve up to 80 people as a dessert, I designed this cake with a more cosy wedding with a limited guest list. It features two fondant marble tiers and one ombre buttercream tier featuring strong reds inspired by the pomegranate. The flowers and foliage, provided by Gaynor at   give it a rustic and whimsy charm and make it perfectly blend in with that exposed brickwork wall.
Golden pomegranate cake truffles

These mini golden pomegranate cake truffles were an extra to go with the cake. And, of course, the inside was red velvet to echo that strong red colour from the pomegranate.

Semi naked mini cakes

The semi naked cake look is still with us, so these mini red velvet cakes with gold tints really ass to the rustic look, for guests who aren’t keen on that thick layer of icing.

And if you’re wondering about the cake stands, these were all handmade by me. My bespoke service is getting busier and busier, so let me know if you have a question about cake stands to suit any cake. I’ll be happy to advise.

About the author…

Hi! I’m Katie and I have been fully cake obsessed since, forever…

Malarkey Cakes is built on a mixture of all my passions. My work is inspired by my background in art and design and I’m honoured to make wedding cakes for couples in love in London and the South East.

I’m passionate about blogging to share my knowledge and give guidance on the ins and out of ordering a wedding cake, making the most of it and making sure it gets the attention it deserves. I also share my tips on wedding planning and team up with fellow suppliers I am lucky enough to work with and who I highly recommend.

When I’m not making or eating cake, you’ll find me trying out new foods in London’s amazing restaurants, drinking great coffee, taking in stunning architecture, on long walks, smashing a decent weights workout or exploring the world.
