Wedding Cake Design Spotlight: Geometric Cakes

About my modern geometric wedding cakes

If you follow me on Instagram, then you will see that I design and create a lot of my signature modern geometric cakes. If you do not know what geometric is, bear with me as I will explain…

Geometry is the branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogues.’ That’s the technical blurb, but I can simplify it further by pointing you to some pretty patterns that you may come across in interior design such as modern wallpapers.

My inspiration comes from architecture and looking back at design through the ages. Geometric patterns have often been used and as a pattern of uniform shapes and lines, it makes it aesthetically pleasing, which leads us on nicely to modern wedding cakes.

Why are Geometric Patterns so Popular?

Humans love geometric patterns because they’re not just pleasing to look at, our brains like it – they make sense. So you can imagine how well this translates into wedding cakes! Using inspiration from geometric patterns of past and present from various sources, I create stunning patterns on cakes using different materials. You may have seen with most of my work that wafer paper works particularly well.

Using Patterns in Geometric Wedding Cakes

The great thing about using uniformed patterns is that you can pair them up with different textures or even busy designs and it just works. There’s beauty in mix and matching different designs.

So if you are looking a for a cake that tastes nice, looks nice but also makes your guests stop and stare in awe, go for a geometric cake! I can focus fully on geometric patterns or I can pair it with metals, industrial textures or pretty patterns for a mixed media masterpiece.

About the author…

Hi! I’m Katie and I have been fully cake obsessed since, forever…

Malarkey Cakes is built on a mixture of all my passions. My work is inspired by my background in art and design and I’m honoured to make wedding cakes for couples in love in London and the South East.

I’m passionate about blogging to share my knowledge and give guidance on the ins and out of ordering a wedding cake, making the most of it and making sure it gets the attention it deserves. I also share my tips on wedding planning and team up with fellow suppliers I am lucky enough to work with and who I highly recommend.

When I’m not making or eating cake, you’ll find me trying out new foods in London’s amazing restaurants, drinking great coffee, taking in stunning architecture, on long walks, smashing a decent weights workout or exploring the world.
