Raspberry Ripple Wedding Cake

A popular flavour for many of my wedding couples is my Raspberry Ripple flavour. This playful flavour is always a winner with couples and guests’ a like. Imagine your guests surprise that the cake is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside! It’s not all about appearances…

So where did this flavour come from? A childhood favourite of mine, it was a no brainer to add it in as a one of my wedding cake flavours. The actual origins of the flavour look to be from the 1920s/1930s, which was when food manufacturers began labelling flavours as Raspberry Ripple and most likely coined the term.

Where did the term Raspberry Ripple come from?

The actual term “ripple” in ice cream manufacturing was used to denote any type of ice cream weaved or ribboned through with coloured and flavoured sweet syrup. Machinery had also been developed, which would allow the ice cream to incorporate a fruit paste in a marbled type effect. Raspberry ripple was born and has been popular ever since.

My Raspberry Ripple flavour wedding cake is a vanilla and raspberry ripple sponge with yummy matching ribboned buttercream. Not only does the cake taste amazing but looks pretty when sliced too. 

Having this flavour will take you and your guests back to their childhood. Although, everyone will have to get in and eat their slice fast as with this flavour, it certainly won’t be hanging around!

Depending on your choice of cake and number of tiers, you could have another flavour with the Raspberry Ripple. Perfect accompaniments for Raspberry Ripple include my yummy Lemon and Blueberry flavour or my Black Forest flavour. Both would go very well with a Raspberry Ripple tier. If you’re looking for something more traditional, why not opt for a Victoria Sponge tier instead?
