How we take care
WHAT IS ALL THIS GDPR STUFF?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is EU legislation that applies to all companies who hold data on EU citizens. It is designed to give you control over your data. We actually hold very little of your data compared to some companies, but we try our best to take good care of it. This page explains how.
HOW DID YOU GET MY DATA?
We don’t buy data from lists or anything like that. We only have your data if you gave it to us. You might, for example, have done that by:
Signing up to the Cake List
Requesting a PDF or an offer
Giving us your details at an event such as a wedding fayre
Contacting us for any reason
DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE MY DATA?
We don’t hold any payment details on our website. If you buy something then all your payment details will be dealt with by an established financial provider, we won’t ever see any of it.
We use MailChimp to hold your email details and to send out correspondence. Every email sent via MailChimp will have clear and simple instructions on how to unsubscribe if you no longer wish to receive correspondence.
Our website is linked to our Facebook page. Some details of who visits our website are passed to Facebook. Of course, we don’t know the names, addresses and so on of who visits our site but your computer will tell ours what its address is (a bunch of numbers, not your actual physical address). All computers do this on all websites – they have to or you wouldn’t be able to see the website. Facebook won’t know that you personally have visited our site but it will know that somebody using your computer did.
All these companies are also bound by GDPR.
CAN I SEE WHAT DATA YOU HOLD ABOUT ME?
GDPR gives you the right to ask what personally identifiable data we hold about you. We have a maximum of one month to supply that data to you.
SO WHAT DO YOU DO WITH MY DATA?
We use it to communicate with you. We will only communicate about products and services that are relevant to the reason that you gave us your contact details. So if you asked for a PDF on wedding planning for example, we will not send you an email about PPI or ask you if you have been involved in an accident.
In case you think that something we send you isn’t relevant, we will provide clear instructions on how to unsubscribe from our list.
We will not sell your data.
If the Government come knocking on our door demanding to know the flavour of cake you have ordered, and if they have a proven legal right to that information, we will be obliged to tell them. Otherwise we won’t tell if you don’t.
SO IF I SIGN UP FOR AN OFFER, YOU WILL ADD ME TO A LIST?
We may then send you details of further offers. You can unsubscribe at any time and we will make it clear and easy to do so. We really are focussed on cakes rather than marketing though, so anything that we do send is designed to be relevant and useful to you. We want to be friends, so hopefully you’ll be happy to receive things from us.
DO I GET A PRIZE FOR READING ALL THE WAY DOWN TO HERE?
We think you bloomin’ should!
Why not sign up for The Cake List and let’s see if we can make that happen!
